ABOUT KTHT
Honky Tonk is a funny thing. It’s the only musical form that also describes where you’ll hear it and how you’ll be dancing while the band plays. It’s made for breaking bottles over broken hearts while whiskey flows and fists fly.
Katie Sires and her band of Honky Tonks (oh yeah it also describes the band) hail from Waterloo, Iowa. They embody the classic spirit of honky tonk music. The band’s signature sound is characterized by Katie’s emotive vocals, delivering heartbreakingly beautiful melodies and honest, storytelling lyrics. KTHT are anchored by Brian McCarty, whose bass provides a solid backbone and he adds depth with harmonies. Luke Sires contributes with his energetic drumming and contagious energy. Bryan Hendrickson completes the Honky Tonks ensemble, wielding his highly modified Telecaster and Lap Steel Guitar to deliver the leads and solos that define the genre.
Having already left their mark on the live music scene, KTHT have shared stages with notable artists:
Dale Watson
Emily Nenni
William Elliott Whitmore
Whitey Morgan
Shawn Hess
Casper Allen
Ian Munsick
Josh Turner
Jon Pardi
Lee Brice
Marshall Tucker Band
Joshua Ray Walker
George Ducas

Two Steppin' in the Shower
Press Release
"Two Steppin' in the Shower" EP by Katie and the Honky Tonks Set for Release on March 1st, 2024. Digital | Compact Disc
WATERLOO, IOWA/2024 - Katie and the Honky Tonks are thrilled to announce the release of their highly anticipated EP, "Two Steppin' in the Shower," on March 1st, 2024. Available both digitally and on compact disc, this 4-track EP promises an authentic honky tonk experience, featuring honest lyrics, killer hooks, harmonies, and a solid two-steppi'n foundation from start to finish. The band believes in the age-old adage, "If it ain’t broke, don't fix it."
Recorded live to 2-inch tape over 2 days at Catamount Recordings in Cedar Falls, Iowa, with minimal overdubs, the EP was engineered, mixed, and mastered by the talented Travis Huisman. Produced collaboratively by KTHT along with Travis Huisman, the result is a raw and genuine sound that captures the essence of the honky tonk genre.
Katie Sires, a seasoned songwriter with over 15 years of experience, brought her 3 best honky tonk songs to the table for this EP. She co-wrote the 4th song and title track, "Two Steppin' in the Shower," with local Des Moines musicians Luke Fox and Nathan Emerson. The Honky Tonks—Brian, Bryan, and Luke—assisted Katie in arranging the songs to reach their full musical potential, with Brian contributing some lyric ideas.
The EP kicks off with the honky tonk tune "Boo Hoo," a song of resilience and overcoming a shocking loss. It sets the stage for the journey ahead, pushing forward and learning from past mistakes. The second track, "No Clue," starts with the bass walking in and takes listeners on an exploration of life's struggles through the lens of observing friends. The tempo of "No Clue" ebbs and flows, concluding with the contemplative question, "what do we do? Oh, what do we do?"
The third track, "Bye Bye Birdie," starts with a strummed acoustic accompanied by the pedal steel and serves as a classic break-up song with a melody that lingers in your head all day. Closing the EP is the title track, "Two Steppin' in the Shower," a fun and anthemic song co-written via a series of text messages between Katie Sires, Luke Fox and Nathan Emerson. The lyrics are light-hearted, fun, and backed by a swampy groove.
Throughout the EP, harmonies sung by Brian McCarty add depth. While Luke Sires, (drums) Brian McCarty, (bass) Roger Miller (Roger Miller Band, Little Jimmy Dickens, Charlie Louvin)(telecaster/pedal steel) and Danny Mitchell (Miranda Lambert) (Hammond B3) contributed to the honky tonk magic. Clocking in at just over 14 minutes, "Two Steppin' in the Shower" EP is a captivating journey that will have you hitting play again and again.
